Martha is a British Artist, based in Dorset, UK

Martha is a contemporary artist renowned for her captivating seascapes painted on linen. With a keen focus on capturing the energy of the ocean, her work comes alive through expressive brushstrokes and masterful layering techniques using a variety of both oil and water based mediums. Martha has a First Class Honours in Fine Art Painting from The University of Southampton; Winchester School of Art, 2011.

Drawing inspiration from her coastal lifestyle, living with her husband and two sons in Bournemouth, Dorset, Martha seemlessly translates the dynamic qualities of water on to her canvas. Her seascapes evoke a sense of movement and of the ever-changing nature of the sea. Each brush stroke dances across the surface, mirroring the ebb and flow of waves, whilst layers of colour & texture build upon one another creating depth and complexity.

Martha's artistic process is a fusion of intuition and technical skill. She embraces spontaneity, allowing her brush to guide her across the surface. Through this energetic approach, she creates a dialogue between the external world and the inner self. Her seascapes therefore not only showcase the beauty and power of the ocean but also invite viewers to reflect upon their own experiences and memories, evoking feelings of serenity, wonder, and contemplation.

The choice of linen as her preferred canvas material is deliberate, as the interplay between brushstrokes and the linen's surface texture adds to the tactile quality of her work, inviting viewers to engage not only visually but also kinaesthetically with her art. The exposed borders serve as visual boundaries, delicately taming the untamed chaos of expressive brushwork.

Martha has just launched her first ever collection of works this summer, 2023; Tides & Portholes
